GPK is the currently used name for the final distant future chapter of the Salehniem universe.
The old planet of Salenheim is long lost, its previous inhabitants taking to the stars and never looking back.
These space-faring Salenheimians traveled far across the Galaxy with new, unstable, 'Space II' warp technology. The blind jumps into space led the settlers to a lush and rich world, which became known as 'New Salenheim.' Unfortunately, due to the unstable nature of the Space II engines, the location of Old Salenheim was lost forever.

New Salenheim became the seat of power for the New Salenheim Empire, which, after Space II was refined, rapidly spread out into the galaxy. However, first contact was quickly made with many other equally powerful alien empires, and, as could be expected, millennia of war followed.
On the other side of the struggle that is now known as the "Creation War," neither the New Salenheim empire nor any of the other space empires remained standing. Instead their decendents have merged together to form one Galaxy-wide state of uneasy peace. Hundreds of different sentient species now live together, sharing the galaxy, a large portion of them survivors from Old Salenheim, though none of them know it, as no records of Old Salenheim survived the Creation War.

Wishing to maintain this peace long into the future, the leaders of all the major species came together in the famous Rexora Summit and founded the largest military organization the galaxy had ever known - the legendary Galactic Peace Keepers (GPK).
The GPK were bound to strict codes of democratic decision making and leadership rotation, to forever prevent corruption seeping into its ranks. The soliders of the GPK, from creation onwards, have been the best trained and equipped in the known universe.
The aim of the GPK was not martial law, however they did enforce the laws that were decided upon by their leading council strongly. However, the sheer power of the GPK was spread thinly over the huge galaxy, and terrorists and warlords always proved a problem.

About half-a-century (due to medical advances this is not a long time for a person in the GPK universe) after the creation of the GPK, its true nemesis became apparent. Beginning in the outer fringes of the galaxy, a large terrorist organization began performing attacks. However this group acted differently to those previously faced by the GPK.
They did not run from open combat - they fought GPK fleets in space and GPK forces on the ground, losing hundreds in the process, but at the same time inspiring many hundreds more to join. Soon this organization began converting more and more parts of the galactic population. Entire planets began signing up under its name, generally due to corrupt planetary leaders wanting to make some credits. This movement became known as the 'Conglomerate' and eventually became strong enough to openly oppose the GPK outright, for control of the Galaxy.

This was the ultimate beginning of the Second Great war, and the Era that is known only as the age of the GPK...
