Lord Konrad The Avenger
Major God of Vengeance
Physical Description:
Konrad is portrayed in temples and shrines as a large, well muscled male figure, often with long flowing hair. Konrad may or may not be shown wearing battle armor, but is always shown holding his holy long sword, 'The Sword of Beltar', in his right hand.
Teachings:
The basic teachings of Konrad revolve around proper use of power, Konrad disapproves of needless warfare but teaches his followers to respond to provocation and wrongs against them with all the force they can muster. Temples to Konrad often double as active forts and schools teaching followers in the ways of armed and unarmed combat. Each temple features a large statue of the avenger in front of a large dirt circle where followers test there skill in unarmed combat with one another to please the god.
Followers:
The followers of Konrad are almost always knights and warriors, (Konrad's monks are some of Salenheims most deadly fighters). Often kings and warlords claim to be follower's of the avenger but they are seldom rewarded for this as Konrad does not support those who fight for their own gain or take from others, (There are darker, more melevolent gods who do however)
Symbol:
The Sword of Beltar is the symbol of Konrad's power it is a one-handed long sword with a edge that is said to be able to cleave the sky, it is made from an unknown material and can not be destroyed, it glows with a faint blue light said to come from the souls of the thousands it has killed. Followers of Konrad carry either a likeness of the sword worn as a necklace or bear a tattoo showing the sword. It is however strictly forbidden to forge blades to imitate Beltar as this is an offence to the divine power of the true sword.
Avatar:
The swordsman, when Lord Konrad needs work done on the mortal plane he sends not an champion but his sword, when the Sword of Beltar is picked up by a mortal it binds itself to their body, changing them into the Swordsman and the
Avatar of Konrad.
Appearances:
Apart from the swordsman, Konrad is often seen in the mortal world at other times, often a strong, male figure is seen praying over the bodies of pure-hearted warriors who have fallen in battle. This figure always fades, however, as other mortal's approach him.
Also yearly, during
Salenheim's Festival of Death it is said that the Star of the Avenger (a bright star in the southern sky) glows red, representing the blood of the mighty men and women who fought for peace and now reside with Konrad in the afterlife.
